IRD introduces a new way to file GST returns online

Here at Johnston Associates South Chartered Accountants we’re huge fans of paper free working environments.

Which is why we’re happy to see the introduction by the IRD of an even better way to file GST returns through an Inland Revenue secure online services account. From now on when you file your GST returns using the new service you’ll get an immediate confirmation giving you certainty that the IRD has received them. You just need to create a secure online services account and then you’re ready to use the service. Registering is just a two-step process, taking about 10 minutes.

  • Step 1: Visit the IRD website, and register for an account. You’ll need to provide some personal details, including your IRD number, and then choose a memorable User ID and password.
  • Step 2: Go through the security step of calling the IRD 0800 227 770 to verify your identity and activate your account.

The IRD promises the new e-service will be

  • Smarter
  • Surer
  • Better

If you need any help, please feel free to contact one of the team here and we can walk you through the process.

Stay tuned for more news as an IRD spokesperson has said that Inland Revenue was also looking at the feasibility of developing a solution that would let businesses file GST returns through accounting software packages…. Now wouldn’t that be great!
